Climbing Without a Rope: The Ascent of Alex Honnold – 60 Minutes

by gradycarter

Although I am not as nimble, and strong pound for pound as I once was, I still feel my body simulating a climb as I watch this video. When I was a little boy my sisters and I used to climb trees nearly everyday. There was something very freeing about being out of reach of a somewhat restrictive world of an adolescent. And beyond thinking about my childhood this video has served as a metaphor for me about risk and reward. I can’t exactly imagine climbing cliffs like this without a rope, but the idea of being bold and brave really moves me to take some risks in my own life. Maybe I’ll just start by getting off of this computer for a little bit…
